Hi there, I'm NanderTGA!

I used to be a member of this community but I've moved on ever since my unfortunate ban, which I honestly can't blame the mods for, as I wasn't always very nice back then.

Over the time I was active in this community, I started the first community package manager repo (after first hacking a package together using burp suite, LOL) and made other various stuff. Over time, I amassed an entire folder filled with random stuff I wrote while messing around.

I've found Windows 96 to be an infinitely interesting website because there is always more undocumented stuff to find, and it holds a special place in my heart to this day.

Every once in a while I find myself even coming back to this website, reading some random stuff and trying it out, and maybe tweaking my repo a bit or something. So much unfinished work :)

NanderTGA: Added some history about how iFrame Apps were born, information provided by billygoat891

An "iFrame App" refers to a single-window application which simply incorporates a full size <code><iframe></code> element filled to the window content container. Said iFrame will usually point to an external resource (resource not hosted within the Windows 96 environment) and will have very little logic to integrate with the Windows 96 API.

Iframe apps are extremely simple to create, and require little to no effort compared to more complex applications. This is sometimes useful for hosting external content which does not necessarily want to rely on Windows 96 specific APIs.

Subtypes
Hosted
A hosted IFrame app is an application which has its resources hosted on the Windows 96 server itself. Hosted iFrame apps have the advantage of being able to access the top level window object without restrictions, since they are hosted on the same origin. This access usually allows hosted iFrame apps to integrate more directly with the Windows 96 environment, since all APIs are available to the frame.

Criticism
A lot of users and developers object to most simple iFrame apps, since they are extremely easy to code and require almost no knowledge of the Windows 96 API and program structure.

History
The first iFrame App was made by billygoat891 and was called MyTube, a (pretty basic) youtube revival. Billy decided he did not want to update this app all the time so instead hosted his site on GitHub pages and made the app simply have an <code><iframe></code> inside pointing to this website. Other people allegedly then copied his code for their own low-effort iFrame Apps, which simply pointed to another website they didn't even own. This led to billy trying to erase all evidence of its existence because of the plague caused by it. Unfortunately for him there were too many clones by that point, and MyTube was lost to time and forgotten.

Windows 96 V3 Cut Content
While Windows 96 v3 featured a lot of improvements, some stuff was also cut from the release. This article will cover these things.

Bell
Bell is the successor to p3, which had some hype and interest around it in the first ~4 months of 2022, but after its api mysteriously disappeared from the V3 private beta, nobody heard of it ever again.

Turns out, even after all this time, bell still isn't ready for production. Bell will probably release in a future service pack for Windows 96 v3.

96Hub
96Hub was an application with some information around Windows 96, but after this wiki was made, it was deemed useless.

Ctrlz doesn't care this much about 96Hub, he leaked the source code here.

Nander also uploaded it to his repo with custom server functionality.

FileNet
fileNet was a public file sharing software, it either used p3 or bell, but I'm not sure tbh.
